  • Collect midstream urine (15–30 mL) in a sterile container to reduce contamination.

2. For Catheterized Patients:

  • Collect urine directly from the catheter sampling port, not the drainage bag, to ensure a fresh, uncontaminated sample.

3. Timing Matters:

  • Examine the sample within 2–4 hours of collection for accurate results.

  • If immediate testing isn’t possible, refrigerate at 2–8°C and bring the sample to room temperature before testing.
